These are the weight loss secrets the diet industry doesn't want you to know. To loose weight you need to:
Treat yourself nicely There’s no way you’ll loose weight permanently by going on a diet. You’ll never loose weight if that’s what you think about all the time, either. And especially if you as well are weighting yourself at least once a day, like many women do. Law of attraction works here, as well: Focusing on what you don’t want – those extra kilos – gives you what you don’t want: extra kilos. The weight loss secrets isn't really a secret at all!
But not only that. The numbers on the weight are just a ridiculous way of making you feel good (if numbers are good) or bad (when numbers are bad, which they tend to be most of the time). Besides, you let the number on the weight decide what you are going to eat or not instead of listening to your body. The weight is a machine. It doesn’t even show the same numbers in the same countries. It has no intelligence. It can’t tell you that you are a marvelous person. And it can’t tell you whether to eat croissant or muesli for breakfast that morning. Still, that’s what you let it do! You let that non-intelligent machine tell you whether or not you should feel great about yourself, what to eat and even what to wear.
Isn’t it better that you make that decision? Look into the mirror and find something about your body that you love – I know there’s something. Those beautiful shoulders, the green sparkling eyes or the slim ankles. Now dress to make the best out of yourself, the colors that really suits you, put on some make up if you use that, some pretty earrings – don’t you just feel fabulous?
Eat whatever you want the rest of the day. How long is it since you did that? But you are going to enjoy the food! No guilt are allowed!
Some times I wonder if the whole diet industry is just one big conspiracy, as everyone knows that the weight you loose you’ll gain again – and that's not a weight loss secret! Though next time you’ll try another diet instead. But diets don’t work! Basta. They don’t work because it’s not natural for anyone to live under a constant rule for what you’re going to eat when. Your body is made to tell you what to feed it. It’s just that you forgot how to listen to it.
How often haven’t you heard one of the following:
I’m on a diet so I’ll have chicken and a tomato salad, no pasta, please. When you have been on and off diets for years you ignore or even loose the ability to listen to the signals from your body. You don’t eat when you’re hungry and don’t stop when you are full. You eat chocolate, cakes, burgers, pizza and other unhealthy food whether you want it or not. You tend to get into a system of punishing and reward which ironically results in one thing: That you keep your weight, whether it’s the one you want or not.
Yes, I hear you – you say that your body screams for chocolate! Well, give it chocolate then! Did it say thank you? Does it reward you with loads of energy? How does your body feel after eating only chocolate for days? How does it feel when you start breaking the chocolate menu with bits of chicken, a salad, fruits and some dark bread? How does it feel when you mainly eat healthy food?
After years of dieting you probably don’t recognize the feeling of hunger any more. So you tend to eat even when you are not hungry. If you are on a diet you eat what you are supposed to eat at certain times of the day. If you are off a diet you eat all the time. Or most of the time. You’re not dieting so you don’t need to limit yourself – and you have forgotten the signals your body sends out saying “it’s enough!”.
Dieting and focusing on your weight also destroys your relationship to exercise and movement. You tend to go for a walk to burn off calories, not because it’s such a beautiful day or because it feels great to move after sitting at the computer all day. You go to the gym even if you hate the smell of sweat and find it dead boring. You go for a run only to go straight onto the weight afterwards to check how many grams you’ve lost. Or you don’t do anything and it makes you feel bad about yourself for lacking discipline. As if this has anything to do with discipline!
So, do you want to break free?
Do you want to feel fabulous?
Here’s what to do:
Ditch the weight. It’s funny how hard it is to break the habit of weighting yourself! In the beginning you’ll probably want to get back on the weight after a few days to see if this works…Well, only ditching the weight don’t help you loose any weight, but it’s the first step to feel fantastic about yourself and your looks. And that’s what it’s all about, no?
Eat and drink whatever you want. Take your time – you don’t need to stuff yourself in a hurry so no one sees what you eat. Try to be aware that you’re actually eating and what you are eating. It’s difficult if you for instance eat while watching television or drive your car, as you get more concerned about what’s going on the screen or on the road than what’s happening in your mouth. You’re supposed to enjoy your food – how can you do that if you don’t pay attention to it?
Eat when you are hungry and stop when you are full. This is difficult! You might have forgotten what that pang of hunger in your stomach feels like. But don’t worry, the feeling will come back. Meanwhile, eat when you think you are hungry, pay attention to your food and stop when you think you are full. If in doubt, stop before – remember, you can always eat more later.
Move your body. Find a sport you like to do. I said like! Unless you love the gym, stop going there and find something else. If you think walking is boring start running. Dance, swim, do yoga or Pilates. Karate, tai chi, judo, volley, football, rock climbing, hunting... There are so many ways to move your body. And I know you’ll find a way that you love. And I know you'll find time to exercise, too.
Then you need to focus on what’s great about the sport you love. Is it the seducing movements and exotic music of belly dancing? Is it meeting and talking to other dog owners when you walk your canine? Is it the way the colours of the nature changes where you run? The feeling of freedom as you are sailing?
Listen to your body. You’ll get the ability back. Your body will tell you when it’s hungry and even what to eat. I had a summer with too many sunset drinks and busy mornings with unhealthy breakfasts. No wonder I felt I needed some energy at the end of the summer! So I cut back on alcohol and started eating a healthy home made muesli mixture with low fat milk in the morning, as well as freshly pressed orange juice. Fuel on the body tank!
It's not only that your body will tell you when and what to eat. You'll start getting a sense of when you need to exercise, too. You'll start feeling sluggish and simply long for some movement if it goes too many days since last time you did some sport. There are so many benefits to exercise, getting in a happy mood is one of them. So enjoy!
