All the benefits to exercise
NEW! WEIGHT LOSS THE HEALTHY WAY I want to remind you of the benefits to exercise: regular exercise has a very good impact on preventing or reducing illness caused by your lifestyle. This could be cardiovascular illnesses, diabetes 2 and obesity, to mention some. In some areas of Denmark (where I live) it is very possible, that your doctor will prescribe exercise instead of medicine, if you are considered being at risk developing one of the problems mentioned above. As there are so many good benefits to exercise and hardly any negative side-effects - why wait until your doctor tells you before you start exercising? The benefits to exercise are well documented and rest on a solid platform of information and science. I want to point out to you all these excellent reasons and hopefully you will feel inspired to either start exercising or to keep on doing it, if you already exercise. Regular exercise has been proven to : - reduce high blood pressure
- have a very positive effect on the insulin/sugar balance in the blood
- have a positive effect on the metabolism
- help build and maintain healthy bones, muscles and joints
- reduce the risk of developing heart disease
- reduce the risk of dying from heart disease or stroke
- improve the composition between the different kinds of cholesterol in the blood
- make you burn more calories which helps you keep or reduce your weight
- reduce the risk of developing low back pain
- release endorphine which makes you feel good and if you have pain it will very often reduce the sensation of pain
- promote psychological well-being, reduce stress, anxiety and feelings of depression and loneliness
Any exercise is better than no exercise. But if you aim to prevent for instance cardiovascular problems it will be a good idea to choose something that speeds up your heartbeat as for example: href=http://www.your-fabulous-life.com/running-ispiration.html> running, walking fast, swimming or riding a bicycle. If you want to prevent diabetes you should choose exercise that involves a large muscle mass: running, rowing, riding a bicycle. To work on strengthen your muscles is excellent, too. Rough gardening has a positive effect on the sugar/insulin balance, too. If you want to loose weight a combination of cardiovascular exercise and muscle strengthening is ideal together with the right diet. The cardiovascular exercise will help you burn more calories (in addition to all the other benefits) and by strengthening your muscles they will grow and thereby use more energy. But again: any activity is better than none. Exercise doesn’t necessarily need to take place in a fitness studio. It could also be going for a walk, with or without trekking poles, running along the beach or in the forest, working in your garden, playing with your kids or your grandchildren, dancing in your living room or at the balcony, swimming in the ocean or walking to the mall instead of driving. In all the European Union states the Department of Health recommends that you are moderate active for at least half an hour every day. Moderate activity means that you become short of breath, but still are able to talk. It doesn’t have to be 30 ongoing minutes. You can split the 30 minutes into for instance two sessions of 15 minutes. Maybe you can ride your bike to work and that will be all it takes? In addition you are recommended twice a week to do some exercise at a more intensive level to really reap the benefits to exercise. Whether you choose some of the suggestions above or choose the fitness center, the football club or whatever it is up to you. Just know that by being active for as little as half an hour every day you will be reducing the risk of developing a lot of serious diseases (of course that doesn’t mean that you can’t lay in bed the remaining 23 and a half hours). Find out what you really like doing and go for it. Once you get started you will feel the benefits to exercise. You will feel better about yourself, have more energy, be less tired, more concentrated and you will probably wonder what took you so long to get started? So get up and move. Move your body and you will move your mind! If you have a health problem consult a doctor or a physiotherapist before you start. Copyright© Mette Hansen
